Hamburg is Germany's largest port city, constantly fixated on trying to rebuild itself after the damage wrought by WWII. For a lazy day away from the buzz of the city, try heading to the Alster Lakes and Planten Un Blomen. This area is full of parks and flowerbeds, ideal for picnicking.
